High-altitude training for everybody

High-altitude training is used in the sport since the late 60’s. It seems that training up in the mountains, where the ideal conditions for stimulation the body to run the appropriate mechanisms for adaptation, is reserved only for professional athletes.

The greater reduction in body fat

It has been proven that people trained in conditions of altitude have a significant reduction in body fat, compared with training athlete in „normal” conditions. How is this possible? Adipose tissue can take in a large rate, for this reason, is very poorly vascularized, thus – poorly supplied with oxygen. One of the adaptive response of the body at the height is an expansion of the capillaries network (micro-capillaries). This expansion also occurs in the adipose tissue, so that it reaches the more oxygen, and thus more efficient combustion is the process of this tissue (Chia M. et al 2013). At the same time physical activity poorer in oxygen atmosphere contributes to increase the consumption of calories compared to standard training oxygen content. Then the process of weight reduction is more efficient.

But the most important advantage of training at simulated altitude conditions is the release of leptin from adipose tissue. The presence of leptin reduces the feeling of hunger, so that the session does not have the desire to enjoy a decent meal. Our brain (hypothalamus) gettin a signal of the presence of leptin, is already „fed” – because it gets the information that the body has significant reserves of energy in the form of body fat.

 

Faster growth of muscle tissue

The subtle effects of hypoxia induced by altitude conditions with the increased activity of vascular endothelial growth factor, which is responsible for the expansion of said capillaries in the adipose tissue has another very important advantage. It stimulates the production of nitric oxide, which occurs due to vasodilation, making it much easier blood flows to the working muscles.
